NORMANDY • Incarnate Word faced its biggest of a number of obstacles to date—battling St. Joseph’s with its star center Taylor Manuel hobbled with a bum knee—Saturday in a Class 5 quarterfinal game.
The hurdle was not too big for the tenacious Red Knights to overcome.
Led by Manuel, who scored a team-high 12 points, two-time reigning state champion Incarnate topped St. Joe's 49-42 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

If the two-time defending Class 5 champion Red Knights were in awe of the performance by Rock Bridge, the No. 1 team in a state-wide coaches poll, they haven't shown it.

| Red Knights Compete in Turkey JammPublished Wednesday, November 30, 2011The Red Knights opened their season after Thanksgiving in Memphis, Tennessee at the 3rd Annual Turkey Jamm at Memphis Central High School.
Incarnate Word opened the season playing North Little Rock (ranked #25 ESPN preseason poll). The Charging Wildcats held a lead a majority of the game, but the Red Knights fought back and tied the game 54-54 to send it to overtime. The Red Knights fell in the extra period 67-62 with Taylor Manuel sitting out the overtime after fouling out. IWA was led in scoring with Taylor Manuel and Nakiah Bell with 16 each, and McKenna Treece added 15 points.
On Sunday, the Red Knights faced Memphis Central, the 2011 Tennessee Class AAA State Champions and the team ranked #3 in the country by MaxPreps. The Lady Warriors featured signees that are going to Louisiana State and Georgia Tech. The Red Knights led much of the first half, and took a 30-28 lead into halftime. The third quarter, Incarnate Word stifled Memphis Central holding them to 6 points, and sealed a 65-54 win.
Incarnate was paced by 25 points from Purdue signee Taylor Manuel. Cierra Young added 17 points while making 6 of 7 field goal attempts, including 2 three point baskets.
The Red Knights face their next opponent on Tuesday, December 6 at Principia. |
